Written in blue are debutants for their team.
So good luck to Harry Cunningham from the Swans.

And the whole GWS side.

In 2006, when I was 16, I got approached by my high school co-ordinator to go to a meeting for kids who need a bit of help with their issues. He told me it was an all day thing and I didn’t need to go to school that day so I was happy to go. So a friend and I got dropped off by my Dad in the morning at the place (in Hawthorn, if I remember correctly), and waited in the foyer with all the other kids. Who looked just like us.
The day ended up being awesome. We played games. Won money. And got free food. Way better than being at school. We also sat down as a group and spoke about certain things but I can’t remember alot of that. After lunch we went into a theatre type room and all took a seat, where at the front stood a few people who got a up and spoke about things that we may be going though. One of those people was Jim Stynes.
Being a Melbourne fan I was pretty excited he was there. He spoke to the group for a little while and and I listened to every word. He spoke so intelligently and meant every word, it was so hard not to listen and not to take in every little bit. For him to come out and talk to all these kids was awesome and something not expected at all. It shows how much he actually cared about his organization and the people involved. It’s a day I haven’t forgotten and hopefully never will. I’m so glad I went, even though at the time I didn’t take it all that seriously, it did have a positive impact on me. And I want to thank Jim for that, as I’m sure many other kids there that day would have loved to.

Jim is a huge loss to not just the Melbourne Football Club and AFL community, but to Victoria and Australia. He is an inspiration.

I urge all Melbourne fans to come to our Round 1 game against Brisbane on Saturday, March 31st at the MCG to show your support for the club and Jim.

Conca can accept 3

Richmond’s Reece Conca can accept a 3 match rough conduct charge after his collision with North’s Leigh Adams on Friday night.

The club has until tomorrow morning to decide if they will fight the charge. If they decide to do so, he could be up for 4 weeks.

I think a suspension is ridiculous, neither player were looking at each other, it was just a simple accident, Adams even saying so after being taken off the ground.

I thought this was pretty fantastic.

NAB Cup

How’d everyone find it?

It’s hard to tell the true form of every team considering most aren’t playing full strength sides, but it’s a good indication of where their new recruits are at and how their structures and game plans are coming along.

GWS didn’t go as a bad as expected, but again, they were not playing full strength sides. I just hope that the Bulldogs and Collingwood were just testing out their game plan on the inexperienced Giants and not giving it their all. It is only the pre-season. Collingwood’s youngsters look exciting and should all hopefully get a few games in the home-and-away season. The Dogs were in both games, but not sure how much they wanted it. Should get a better idea once Cooney and Lake make an appearance.

The Hawks showed what is to come with Buddy kicking 4 all up, even with a stint in the midfield. Richmond was very much in and out of both games, they definately showed what they are capable of and should improve alot this year once they get going. North played alright. Their younger players don’t seem to be stepping up as muc as they should, such as Ziebell, Cunnington and Atley. They all have a few games in them now and should be doing things with the ball but can be quite ineffective.

Essendon need to sort out what they’re doing. Obviously they did not have a full-strength side, and that’s okay. Players did stand up when they needed to and showed good signs. But they did get smashed. I like watching both the Eagles and Dockers play, especially out West and especially againt each other. Freo should do better this year, will be a bit more defensive and that’s not a bad thing. The Eagles are in for another big year after the show they put on. LeCras who?
